During 2023, I was completely overwhelmed (almost petrified) by the new capabilities of AI. I spent months exploring, experimenting, and questioning everything. I had to learn, unlearn, and reframe ideas I had never questioned before as a creator. Instead of giving in to the algorithm’s suggestions, I had to resist the temptation to simply produce what the machine offered and instead ask: What do I really want to create?
I kept 98% of what I created with this AI to myself, searching relentlessly for something that felt truly mine, something that could only come from my own creative soul, not from an autonomous machine capable of generating anything.
This series, Useless Hands, is a result (and not the answer) of that reflection. It is a question: If artists’ hands become obsolete, what will we do with them next? The hand is the bridge between our intention and our creation. I’m both certain and obsessed with finding out what secrets they still hold, and how they might shape the future of creativity.
